Little Acers Preschool is a fully inclusive, accessible setting. Our SENCO is Poppy Grice, aims to support the early identification of a child with additional needs and to provide additional support within the setting.
We recognise that parents know their children best and involve them in all decisions made about their child and to create an overall view of their strengths and areas in need of development. From this, a person-centred support plan is created for your child.
SEND provision at Little Acers Preschool reflects the new Code of Practice and updated guidance regarding legal requirements surrounding our duty to provide for children with SEND under Part 3 of the Children and Families Act 2014. We understand and are continuously aware that children with additional needs are more vulnerable and safeguarding those children is of utmost priority.
We recognise that all children are entitled to a learning experience that respects diversity, enables participation, removes barriers and anticipates and considers a variety of learning needs and preferences. Our highly skilled practitioners pride themselves on their early identification of additional needs as well as their individual tailored intervention skills to assist a child to their full potential.
Where this additional support is not sufficient, a referral will be made to the local authority or another specialist support service. We will discuss this with parents and parental consent will be gained before any referrals are made.
When your child is due to transition to school, we will liaise with the school SENCO, and/or teacher, to support your child with an enhanced transition. This could include additional visits to the school or providing the school with strategies to support your child. Poppy and your child’s key person will work closely with you to ensure that you are fully involved in this transition.
What should I do if I have concerns about my child or if they have a special educational need?
We offer an open door policy. We encourage you to raise any concerns with your child’s key worker or with Poppy. Or you can email Poppy at [email protected]
